Overview
TAK Can ("the app") is developed and published by 12113775 Canada Inc. This policy describes how we handle your data. In short: we do not collect or store your personal data on our own servers. Data generated by the app is transmitted only to TAK servers that you configure and control.
Data We Do Not Store on Our Servers
TAK Can does not collect or store personal information on our own servers. The app transmits data (such as user identifiers, location, and optional health metrics) only to TAK servers that you explicitly configure. These servers are operated by you or your organization, not by us.
Data Stored on Your Device
The app stores the following data locally on your device only:
- TAK server connection credentials (stored in the iOS Keychain)
- Server certificates and Data Packages
- Map overlays, markers, and contact information received from your TAK server
- Application log files (stored in the app's Documents folder)
- App preferences and settings
This data never leaves your device except when transmitted directly to the TAK servers you configure — which are operated by you or your organization, not by us.
Data Usage and Tracking
The app does not track users across apps or websites, does not use data for advertising purposes, and does not share data with data brokers. All data transmitted by the app is used solely to provide core functionality.
User Identifiers
The app may use user or device-related identifiers required to connect to and communicate with the TAK servers you configure. These identifiers are used solely for app functionality and are not used for advertising or tracking purposes. We do not store these identifiers on our own servers.
Location Data
The app uses your device's GPS location to display your position on the map and to broadcast your position to the TAK servers you connect to. Location data is transmitted only to TAK servers you have explicitly configured. We do not receive or process your location data.
Location data is used solely for app functionality (map display and situational awareness) and is not used for tracking or advertising purposes.
Health Data (Apple Watch)
If you use the Apple Watch companion app, it reads health metrics (such as heart rate, SpO2, blood pressure, steps, and active calories) from HealthKit when explicitly enabled by the user. This data is transmitted only to the TAK servers you have configured and is not used for advertising, analytics, or tracking purposes.
Camera & Microphone
The app accesses the camera and microphone only when you initiate a video stream. Video is streamed directly to your configured TAK servers via RTMP. We do not record, store, or process any video or audio.
Third-Party Services
TAK Can uses the following open-source libraries, none of which collect personal data:
- TAK Aware by Flight Tactics LLC (Apache 2.0)
- HaishinKit — RTMP streaming
- MobileVLCKit — video playback
- SwiftTAK, SQLite.swift, SwiftProtobuf, SWXMLHash, ZipFoundation, SwiftCertificates, mgrs-ios, CodeScanner
Children's Privacy
TAK Can is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
